What is a makeup spatula used for?

A spatula lifts product out of a jar, pan or stick and onto a mixing palette, so a used brush or finger never goes back into your product. That's the whole hygiene case for it — and it's also how you shave a clean slice off a foundation stick on set.

Why stainless steel?

Stainless steel wipes down and sanitizes completely between clients, doesn't absorb pigment or oil, and won't warp or stain over years of use. It also stays cool, which keeps cream formulas from breaking down while you work with them. Bodyography's is sleek, slim and built to live in a kit.

Do I need a spatula if I'm not a professional?

Not strictly — but it extends the life of your products. Every time you dip a used brush into a jar you introduce bacteria, and a spatula stops that. It's also the easiest way to portion two foundation shades onto a palette when you're mixing a custom match.

How do I clean it?

Wipe it down with Anti-Bacterial Sanitizing Spray and a clean tissue between products and between faces. Because there's no join, no bristle and no glue, there's nothing for product to hide in — it's the easiest tool in a kit to keep genuinely clean.

Does it come with a mixing palette?

The spatula is sold on its own here. If you want both, the Artistic Mix Palette is a stainless steel mixing palette and spatula set designed to work together — the palette cradles in your palm while the spatula does the lifting and the mixing.

Is Bodyography cruelty-free and vegan?

Yes — Bodyography is 100% cruelty-free and has been for over 27 years. The majority of our products are also vegan; a few contain beeswax or other animal-derived ingredients (all cruelty-free). Check individual product pages for confirmed vegan status. Cruelty-free is a non-negotiable across the brand. Certified by PETA and LEAPING BUNNY.

Where is Bodyography made, and are ingredients ethically sourced?

Bodyography is a family-owned professional cosmetics brand, headquartered in California and manufactured primarily in the United States, along with partners in S. Korea, France, Spain, Taiwan, China and Italy. We source ingredients responsibly and formulate to our own clean-beauty standards rather than to a universal checklist. What we include is just as intentional as what we leave out.

What's Bodyography's return policy on opened makeup?

We offer returns on unused products within 30 days of purchase. Because of hygiene standards, we generally cannot accept returns on opened cosmetics unless the product is defective. If your product arrived damaged or you have a formulation concern, please reach out to our customer service team — we take every message seriously and want to make it right.

How can I get a free professional shade match?

We offer free shade matching for foundation, concealer, tinted moisturizer, and more. Email us with a clear, natural-light photo of your face and neck (no makeup, no filter), and one of our team members — many of whom are working makeup artists — will match you personally. It's one of the most-used services we offer.
