Why do I have to shake it?

Because the two phases separate by design — that's the point. Shake to combine the oil and the water, pour onto a cotton pad, and use it while it's still emulsified. The oil breaks down long-wear pigment and the water rinses it clear, which is why one pass does the work of three.

Is it safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers?

Yes — the formula is fragrance-free and suitable for all skin types, including contact lens wearers. Press a soaked pad over closed eyes and hold for a few seconds to let waterproof mascara dissolve before you wipe. Never scrub the lash line; the remover does the work if you give it a moment.
