Brush Roll: Synthetic Leather
Brushes: Synthetic Nylon Fibers (Taklon)Which Bodyography brush should I use for my foundation / blush / eyeshadow?
For liquid foundation, use the Foundation Brush (flat and dense) for medium coverage or the Buffing Brush for full coverage. For blush, use an angled Blush Brush to hug the cheekbone. For eyeshadow, a Blending Brush is essential for crease work, and a flat Shader Brush is best for packing color onto the lid. Our full brush guide breaks it down by product and finish.
Are the brushes vegan and synthetic, or do they use animal hair?
Yes, all Bodyography brushes are vegan and made from high-quality synthetic bristles. Synthetic fibers hold their shape, don't shed, and pick up both cream and powder products beautifully. Because they're synthetic, they're also easier to clean and dry faster than natural-hair brushes.
How often should I clean my makeup brushes?
Quick-clean your brushes after every use with Brush Cleanser to remove product buildup and bacteria. Deep-clean weekly (or every two weeks for eye brushes used less often) with a gentle soap and warm water. Clean brushes deliver more accurate color, blend better, and prevent breakouts — it's one of the highest-return habits in makeup.
Will these brushes shed?
No — because our brushes are made from synthetic fibers with quality ferrules and glue, they hold their shape without shedding. If you're seeing shedding, it's often a sign the brush needs cleaning, or the bristles are worn out. Properly cared for, a good synthetic brush will last for years.
Are they suitable for professional makeup artists as well as at-home use?
Yes. Bodyography brushes are used by working makeup artists on set, in bridal, and in studios worldwide — they're built to professional standards, hold up to constant cleaning, and pick up product cleanly enough for high-definition work. They're also priced and shaped for everyday at-home use, which is why our brush line has cross-appeal with both audiences.
Is Bodyography cruelty-free and vegan?
Yes — Bodyography is 100% cruelty-free and has been for over 27 years. The majority of our products are also vegan; a few contain beeswax or other animal-derived ingredients (all cruelty-free). Check individual product pages for confirmed vegan status. Cruelty-free is a non-negotiable across the brand. Certified by PETA and LEAPING BUNNY.
Where is Bodyography made, and are ingredients ethically sourced?
Bodyography is a family-owned professional cosmetics brand, headquartered in California and manufactured primarily in the United States, along with partners in S. Korea, France, Spain, Taiwan, China and Italy. We source ingredients responsibly and formulate to our own clean-beauty standards rather than to a universal checklist. What we include is just as intentional as what we leave out.
What's Bodyography's return policy on opened makeup?
We offer returns on unused products within 30 days of purchase. Because of hygiene standards, we generally cannot accept returns on opened cosmetics unless the product is defective. If your product arrived damaged or you have a formulation concern, please reach out to our customer service team — we take every message seriously and want to make it right.
How can I get a free professional shade match?
We offer free shade matching for foundation, concealer, tinted moisturizer, and more. Email us with a clear, natural-light photo of your face and neck (no makeup, no filter), and one of our team members — many of whom are working makeup artists — will match you personally. It's one of the most-used services we offer.
