Do I use lip liner before or after lipstick?

Both — the order depends on the look. For a defined, long-wearing lip, apply Lip Pencil first to outline and fill in your lips, then top with your Lipstick. For a softer, more forgiving look, apply lipstick first, then use Lip Pencil to sharpen the edges. To make color last longest, fill in your entire lip with Lip Pencil before lipstick.

How do I pick a lip liner shade that matches my lipstick or natural lip?

For a matching look, choose a Lip Pencil in the same undertone as your lipstick — one shade darker for subtle definition, or exact match for a seamless finish. For a natural-lip look worn alone, pick a shade closest to your bare lip color. Rosewood, Barely There, and Pouty are our most universal shades that flatter across skin tones.

Can I use lip liner alone as a lip color?

Yes — this is one of the most on-trend ways to wear lip pencil. Line your lips and fill in the entire lip with Lip Pencil, then top with a swipe of clear Lip Gloss or Glossy Lip Oil for softness. The finish is matte, defined, and lasts far longer than lipstick alone.

Is the liner creamy or firm, and will it tug on my lips?

Lip Pencil is richly pigmented but creamy enough to glide over lips without tugging. If you find the tip too soft to sharpen precisely, refrigerate the pencil for a few minutes before sharpening. For the sharpest line, use short, feather-light strokes rather than dragging the pencil across your lips.

How do I use liner to make my lips look fuller?

Slightly overline your natural lip line — no more than one millimeter past the edge, especially in the center of the top and bottom lip — then blend the outer edge into the lip with your finger. Use a shade close to your natural lip color for the most seamless illusion. Top with a shine of gloss on the center of your bottom lip to reflect light and enhance the fullness.

Is Bodyography cruelty-free and vegan?

Yes — Bodyography is 100% cruelty-free and has been for over 27 years. The majority of our products are also vegan; a few contain beeswax or other animal-derived ingredients (all cruelty-free). Check individual product pages for confirmed vegan status. Cruelty-free is a non-negotiable across the brand. Certified by PETA and LEAPING BUNNY.

Where is Bodyography made, and are ingredients ethically sourced?

Bodyography is a family-owned professional cosmetics brand, headquartered in California and manufactured primarily in the United States, along with partners in S. Korea, France, Spain, Taiwan, China and Italy. We source ingredients responsibly and formulate to our own clean-beauty standards rather than to a universal checklist. What we include is just as intentional as what we leave out.

What's Bodyography's return policy on opened makeup?

We offer returns on unused products within 30 days of purchase. Because of hygiene standards, we generally cannot accept returns on opened cosmetics unless the product is defective. If your product arrived damaged or you have a formulation concern, please reach out to our customer service team — we take every message seriously and want to make it right.

How can I get a free professional shade match?

We offer free shade matching for foundation, concealer, tinted moisturizer, and more. Email us with a clear, natural-light photo of your face and neck (no makeup, no filter), and one of our team members — many of whom are working makeup artists — will match you personally. It's one of the most-used services we offer.
