People, Planet, and Profit. Finding the Sustainability Balance.
The beauty industry is a flourishing market that caters to the diverse needs of millions of consumers globally. It encompasses a vast range of products, from skincare and makeup to hair care and personal hygiene, that help us look and feel our best. However, as the beauty industry continues to grow, it also poses a significant threat to our environment.
The industry produces massive amounts of waste and consumes considerable resources. With consumers becoming increasingly aware of the impact of their purchasing decisions on the environment, sustainability has emerged as a critical factor in the beauty industry. At Bodyography, we recognize the importance of sustainability and are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint while sustaining our brand.
To us, sustainability means striking a balance between people, planet, and profit. As a small independent brand, we understand the challenge of creating a brand and products that do not harm the planet while remaining financially viable. One way we have addressed this challenge is by limiting our product launches. Instead of launching four to six collections a year, we are now more strategic and mindful about introducing new products. We believe that our dynamic collection of core hero items, coupled with two new collections or line extensions per year, is sufficient to showcase Bodyography's story.
We recognize that our industry is overcrowded with products, leading to an overwhelming impact on the planet, our minds, and our makeup vanities. Along with strategic planning, we regularly discontinue items that no longer make a sales impact on our brand, opting for fewer SKUs, which is a sustainable and financial choice we make to remain afloat.
We also understand that our packaging choices play a significant role in reducing our environmental impact. As a brand that embodies perception, glamour, confidence, and enhancement, packaging tells the story of our brand. We have always chosen to keep our primary and secondary packaging simple, allowing our products and formulas to speak for themselves, choosing recyclable paper, printed with soy ink.
To decrease our environmental footprint, we are working with mono-materials, which comprise a single type of material, making them easier to recycle. We also have an advanced recycling program in the USA, and we educate ourselves and our customers on how to recycle efficiently. We partner with manufacturers who offer solutions that use PCR (post-consumer recycled materials), and we continue to explore new and innovative ways to create sustainable packaging materials.
At Bodyography, we recognize that achieving sustainability is an ongoing process that requires education and investment. This year, on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, we are celebrating Earth Day by offering a 15% discount on our full site from 12:00 am to 11:59 pm. Additionally, 15% of all sales will be donated to San Diego Coast Keeper, an organization dedicated to protecting and preserving our planet's natural resources in honor of Earth Day.
